The short passage “Shitty first drafts” written by Anne Lamott perfectly explains the process and completion of a first draft. I agreed and related to everything she stated in this essay. I went through the exact process of being stuck and having a hard time getting my thoughts on paper. I also deleted and retyped so many sentences trying to find the best way to word something and make everything flow nicely. Another thing I related to was when she talked about getting up and doing something else for a few. That is what I did exactly. I got up and did other activities giving my thoughts a break so I was ready to continue on with an open mind. The last thing that stood out to me was when she was talking about no writer even the most popular ones always feel confident about their first draft. This honestly surprised me, I personally thought writers just knew exactly what to write but that is not the case. We all go through the same process to get to our amazing final drafts. When I revise my own essay I will take everything into consideration. I will use all the advice given to me in my peer reviews. Last but not least I will go in confidently. It takes an awful first draft to get to a better second draft and finishing it off with an amazing third draft.
