Learning Outcome 5 and 6

Learning Outcome #5 & #6:

I used four sources in my significant writing project therefore I needed MLA format citations to Gove credit to all four authors. Citations have always confused me. There are so many different ways to cite sources and knowing when and how to correctly cite a journal, website, book, image etc was always a reoccurring struggle in English. Also when embedding quotes into text I never really knew how to smoothly transition so I always started my quotes with  *The authors name* states. This created a transition into the quote while also stating that these next words are from the author. I found this technique to be pretty successful in all of my essays. Then when adding a citation at the end of the quote I always put the page number I found the quote on. I believe my citations have improved. It also helps that we are learning citations in different classes such as bio so I can apply my knowledge to both classes. I also learned how to create a citation on my own. I was so used to copying and pasting the link into easy bib and having it generate on it’s own. I quickly learned that these citations are not always correct, this is when I learned to make these citations on my own. Also with raw wider range of materials like books and journals there is a whole different tab for those citations so I would commonly cite those as websites creating an incorrect citation. When I started making my own I found the formula to be confusing so I would sometimes mix it up. One mistake I made a lot was not putting the authors last name first.
